The Cat's Pillow
Posted by Heidi Rose | Posted in behavior | Posted on Monday, November 23, 2009
Today was another day I took a nap in Lola's room. I was on the phone at the time, and while I talked she put her face very close to mine and rubbed her cheek against the phone. She lied down a couple of times on top of me, while I pet her, and she purred like an engine. It made me think that she must think I'm some kind of pillow for her. Or... you know those shops in malls - the ones that sell memory foam pillows and such - that set out chairs you can sit in while they vibrate and massage you? Maybe that's what Lola thinks I am...
I also noticed she kneaded my body, feeling for weaknesses in my organs...

Yellow-Eyed Lola
Posted by Heidi Rose | Posted in poem | Posted on Tuesday, November 03, 2009
Last night sleeping
in a bedroom with our new kitty
Lola.
She’s always meowing
in the mornings
I thought
She could use a friend.
I brought my blanket
looking into her round harvest-moon eyes
I stroked her soft gray fur
before turning off the light.
A black silhouette
with fluffy edges
moved softly through the darkness
black paws traipsed right over me.
5:30am
Being in the same room,
meowing sounded even louder-
so much for company.
At least
now I know how she
gets up on the top bunk
(not levitation
like we originally thought)
This poem was written just yesterday for my Creative Writing portfolio.
Hope you like. :)
Addressing the Why
Posted by Heidi Rose | Posted in story | Posted on Monday, November 02, 2009
(story has been dramatized, slightly)
It was a dark and stormy night when a sweet little kitty, barely a year old, was abandoned by a human and left out in the cold, cruel world to make it on her own. She was meowing from a ditch when a sweet and kind human named Alyssa, found her, and embraced her with open arms. The kitty, who Alyssa gave the name Lola, worthily rose to the occasion and gained back her health speedily, putting on some much needed kitty weight. A month went by, and Alyssa put up posters and information for Lola's previous owner. Sadly, no one called.
Alyssa told her friends about the little sweetie who could be shy at first, but loved to be loved. One of her friends, Amy, had been wanting a kitten for a while and took a special interest in Lola. After consulting her four sisters on the matter (they wanted a kitten too, and thought it was a great idea), and before even meeting her in person, Amy offered to adopt Lola.
When they did meet, and blue eyes met orange eyes, it was love.
For a week, Amy hid Lola as a fugitive in her school apartment. Unfortunately, theirs was a forbidden friendship. So, with a heavy heart, Amy placed her dear little friend in the loving care of her three younger sisters, who would take care of her kitty until she would be able to provide a safe home. ***
Lola Everyday was originally a feature on the wonderful little blog INSPIRATION BUDDY!! (and a considerably new one at that), before I decided to make it into it's own little blog. The purpose of the feature was to let Amy see Lola everyday, even though they are apart (because Amy really misses her kitty). The blog is more for archiving purposes than for anything else, but I promise to throw in a poem once in a while... :)
Sincerely,
Heidi and Lola
